Anger Therapy to Unlock a Calmer You

Anger comes up suddenly out of nowhere and feel so completely uncontrollable. It creates a sense of alienation that affects everything you care about, your relationships, your well-being, and especially your sense of self. People will tell you “your anger is the problem”, but offer you no guidance on how you might overcome it. That is because, societally, we do not yet understand the driving mechanisms behind anger.

At Katya Coad Counselling, I’m here to help you understand where your anger comes from and help gently and safely guide you toward taking control and beginning to heal. I will walk with you in a nonjudgmental and caring space where you can explore what is really going on for you on deeper levels.

Understanding Anger with Compassion
Though anger may feel like a storm inside, I approach it with curiousity and compassion. Together, we will gently pull back the veil to explore the underlying emotions and experiences that contribute to your anger, finding healthier ways to express it. Instead of judging you, I am here to support you on your journey to greater peace and empowerment.

Therapies Designed to Help You Heal

Each person’s experience with anger is different. I use a blend of proven, compassionate therapy methods to acknowledge the person that you are on every level – body, mind, and spirit – and help you break free from anger’s grip.

  • Person-Centered Therapy – Together, we’ll uncover your emotions and thoughts, focusing on your strengths and unique path forward.
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE) – Somatic therapy helps with anger by focusing on the mind-body connection, allowing individuals to become more aware of physical sensations in their body that show up as anger arises. It helps clients identify and release pent-up emotions stored within the body, ultimately leading to better emotional regulation.
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) – We’ll dive into the emotions behind your anger, helping you heal old wounds and clear the path for emotional growth.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT helps you recognize and shift negative thought patterns. Instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios, you’ll learn how to challenge those thoughts and replace them with something healthier.
  • A Mix of other Therapies (Inner Child Work, Parts, Reparenting & Grounding) – Depending on the client and their circumstances, I sometimes draw from an eclectic mix of other modalities in a trauma-informed way. These may include inner child work and reparenting, parts therapy, and grounding visualizations. Healing your past emotional wounds helps you make choices that align with the future you want.

The Benefits of Anger Therapy
Anger therapy is more than just learning to “manage” anger symptoms—it’s about understanding anger and transforming it into something that helps rather than hinders. Rather than providing advice, I guide you to find your own answers by helping you:

  • Recognize what triggers your anger
  • Build healthier ways to cope
  • Improve the ways in which you communicate
  • Heal your relationships

Take the First Step Toward Healing
If you’re ready to face your anger and create lasting change, I’m here to help you on that journey. At Katya Coad Counselling, I walk alongside you to discover healthier ways to live in harmony with your emotions. Nothing brings me more joy than helping you find a more peaceful, fulfilled future.

FAQs

How do I know if my anger is something I need to work on?

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by anger and saying things you regret, leaving a trail of broken relationships behind you, it might be time to talk to someone. Feeling at the mercy of your own impulses can feel devastating, and you deserve to feel well and in control of your emotions.

What if I’ve been hiding my anger for years?

Talking about our anger patterns can make us feel incredibly vulnerable, particularly if we have been judging ourselves about them for years. But, talking about them also allows us to begin shining a light on them in order to isolate patterns and underlying dynamics that keep you stuck. We will go at whatever pace feels safe and comfortable for you. Counselling is not about forcing change—rather, it is about allowing the space to heal. Suppressed anger can build up over many years and feel suffocating. Anger therapy is about gently uncovering what’s been hidden for so long and enabling you to begin releasing it in healthier, more constructive ways.

What if stress makes my anger worse?

Stress can definitely make anger feel uncontrollable and overwhelming. Together, we’ll explore the ways stress fuels your anger, while working on practical tools to calm the storm when life gets feeling like it is too much.
