Make Life Transitions a Positive Experience

Life doesn’t always go as planned. Change can be exciting—a new job, a fresh start, a big move – but sometimes it can be unexpected and hard—a breakup, a loss, or feeling like you don’t know who you are anymore. Even changes you’ve been looking forward to can feel overwhelming when they finally arrive. At Katya Coad Counselling, I’m here to walk beside you through the uncertainty, offering you support, perspective, and tools to help you move forward with more confidence.

Why Do Life Transitions Feel So Hard?

Although change can be exciting, it can also stir up feelings of grief, anxiety, and self-doubt. Even positive transitions—like becoming a parent or starting a new career—can leave you feeling lost and alone. That’s because transitions force us to leave behind the familiar and step into the unknown.

You might be experiencing:

  • Stress and anxiety – The fear of what comes next can feel overwhelming.
  • Self-doubt – You may question your choices or feel unsure of your identity.
  • Grief and loss – Even positive change means leaving something else behind.
  • Loneliness – You might feel that no one understands what you’re going through.

Common Life Transitions
Life changes come in many forms. Some are expected, while others happen suddenly. No matter what the transition you’re facing, I’m here to help.

  • Career Changes: A new job, job loss, or feeling unfulfilled in your work
  • Relationships: Breakups, divorce, or adjusting to married life
  • Parenthood: The challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, or an empty nest
  • Loss and Grief: The passing of a loved one or major life shift
  • Relocation: Moving to a new place and adjusting to change
  • Identity and Self-Discovery: Exploring who you are and what you want in life

No transition is too big or too small. If you’re struggling, your feelings are valid.

How I Help You Navigate Change?

Everyone experiences transitions differently, which is why I use a blend of proven, compassionate therapy methods to acknowledge the person that you are on every level – body, mind, and spirit – and help you through the uncertainty.

  • Person-Centered Therapy – Together, we’ll uncover your emotions and thoughts, focusing on your strengths and unique path forward.
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE) – Somatic therapy helps with transitions by focusing on the mind-body connection, allowing individuals to become more aware of physical sensations in their body that show up when things get difficult. It helps clients identify and release pent-up emotions stored within the body, ultimately leading to better emotional regulation and reduced anxiety.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT helps you recognize and shift negative thought patterns. Instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios, you’ll learn how to challenge those thoughts and replace them with something healthier.
  • A Mix of other Therapies (Inner Child Work, Parts, Reparenting & Grounding) – Depending on the client and their circumstances, I sometimes draw from an eclectic mix of other modalities in a trauma-informed way. These may include inner child work and reparenting, parts therapy, and grounding visualizations. Healing your past emotional wounds helps you make choices that align with the future you want.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
Life changes are hard, but you don’t have to figure them out on your own. Whether you need guidance, clarity, or just a safe place to talk, I’m here to walk beside you along the way.
