Anger Therapy to Unlock a Calmer You

Some experiences change us forever. It could be a sudden loss, betrayal, or accident, or years of feeling unseen, unheard, or unsafe. Trauma lingers long after the original event and manifests as self-doubt, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions that don’t seem to make sense. Trauma shapes how we see ourselves and the world, but healing is possible. Trauma therapy helps you untangle the past, process your pain, and find a way forward. At Katya Coad Counselling, I offer trauma therapy to help you move from survival to truly living. You don’t have to carry it alone, and the right support will help you heal, grow, and be yourself again.

How Trauma Shows Up in Your Life?

Trauma doesn’t always look like what we expect it to. At times, it can show up as flashbacks or panic attacks, while at others it feels like disconnection, relationship struggles, or battling thoughts of “not-enoughness.” It can even show up in your body, as chronic pain, tension, exhaustion.

A Safe Place to Heal

Talking about trauma can feel overwhelming, which is why our sessions are built around safety, trust, and a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we create a space where you can breathe, explore, and take one healing step at a time. Your voice and your story matters, and you deserve to heal.

My Approach Trauma Therapy?

Each person’s journey is unique, which is why I tailor my approach to suit your specific needs. I use a blend of proven, compassionate therapy methods to acknowledge the person that you are on every level – body, mind, and spirit – and help you break free from mental health challenges.

  • Person-Centered Therapy – Together, we’ll uncover your emotions and thoughts, focusing on your strengths and unique path forward.
  • Somatic Experiencing (SE) – Somatic therapy helps with mental health by focusing on the mind-body connection, allowing individuals to become more aware of physical sensations in their body that show up as anxiety and panic. It helps clients identify and release pent-up emotions stored within the body, ultimately leading to better emotional regulation and reduced mental health symptoms.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – When you feel disconnected from yourself and from other people, EFT helps you understand the deeper emotions driving conflict to bring you back to a place of safety and love.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – CBT helps you recognize and shift negative thought patterns. Instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios, you’ll learn how to challenge those thoughts and replace them with something healthier.
  • A Mix of other Therapies (Inner Child Work, Parts, Reparenting & Grounding) – Depending on the client and their circumstances, I sometimes draw from an eclectic mix of other modalities in a trauma-informed way. These may include inner child work and reparenting, parts therapy, and grounding visualizations. Healing your past emotional wounds helps you make choices that align with the future you want.

Why Trauma Therapy Matters?
Trauma is often not understood by the people we love or cross paths with in every day life. It has nothing to do with being weak or broken, and has everything to do with what you have experienced. It means you’ve been through something that changed you. Healing does not mean forgetting—it means finding a way to live without being trapped in the past. At Katya Coad Counselling, trauma therapy isn’t about “fixing” you, but about helping you reclaim your strength, voice, and sense of self.

FAQs

What If my trauma isn’t “bad enough” for therapy?

Therapy is for anyone who wants to improve the way they move through the world. Trauma, specifically, is far more prevalent than we once realized, and it isn’t about comparison. If something weighs on you, affects your life, or causes you pain, you deserve support. No trauma is too small to heal from.

I’ve been to therapy before, but it didn’t help. What’s different?

Each therapist is different, as is every approach. If past therapy didn’t work, it could be that it was not the right fit for you, or possibly you underestimated how long healing might take. That doesn’t mean healing isn’t possible. Make sure you choose a therapist that feels like a great fit and feel free to ask questions and clarify timelines. Sharing your concerns will help you connect with your therapist and facilitate your healing.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened?

You can talk about only what you feel comfortable with. Healing doesn’t have to be about endlessly reliving painful past events—it’s about processing it in your nervous system in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you.
