Counselling for Nelson, the West Kootenays, and Beyond
Katya Coad, RTC
Healing from my own journey has offered me the tools to help individuals and couples move forward with growth, clarity, and self-acceptance.
It took me years of searching—and a few humbling missteps—to arrive at a place of authentic inner peace and self-acceptance. Looking back, I am deeply grateful for this journey, which has led me to both personal healing as well as an ability to help others align with their truest selves. My deepest desire now is to contribute in a meaningful way to the healing of our traumatized world that often feels dark and out-of-control.
As part of my journey, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University, Chico, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from Claremont Graduate School. I later completed the coursework for a Master of Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University and earned my Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) designation from Orca Institute in Vancouver, where I also completed my practicum. My background includes working with marginalized communities, at-risk teens, and crisis intervention. The person-centred approach I use is trauma-informed and comprehensive, integrating mind, body, and spirit. I work with both individuals and couples using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE).
